 Position Overview:

The Rehabilitation /vocational Specialist has responsibility to develop, direct, and provide work-related services, including assessment of the effect of the client’s mental illness on employment, and to plan and implement an ongoing employment strategy to enable client to obtain and retain employment. The Rehabilitation/Vocational Specialist also assumes generalist functions of providing treatment, rehabilitation, care management, and support services within the team.

Essential Job Responsibilities/Requirement

  • Provide individual vocational-supportive counseling to enable clients to identify vocational strengths and problems, establish vocational or career goals and plans to reach them.

 

  • Teach clients to recognize and target symptoms of mental illness that interfere with employment.

 

  • Plan and provide work-related supportive services, such as assistance with grooming and personal hygiene, securing appropriate attire, wake-up calls, and transportation.

 

  • Teach job-seeking skills.

 

  • Develop individualized jobs based on client’s needs, abilities, and interest.

 

  • Conduct on the job performance assessments and evaluations, regular work review sessions with clients and their employers, on the job support and crisis assistance contacts.

 

  • Perform job coaching, problem solving, and support on and off the job site.  Coordinate with State Vocational Rehabilitation and other employment services.

 

  • Provide benefits counseling (e.g. SSI, Veterans’ Benefits)

 

  • Provide service coordination (care management) for an assigned group of clients including developing and evaluation individual treatment plans, providing individual supportive therapy and symptom management.

 

  • Participate in client-centered comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history, mental status, physical health, use of drugs or alcohol, education and employment, social development and functioning, activities of daily living, and family structure and relationships.

 

  • Provide on-call crisis interventions and serve as back up after hours on a rotating schedule.

 

Education/Experience/Training:

 A Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, criminal justice, theology, nursing, counseling or education; and two (2) years experience in behavioral health.
